Dr David Humphreys

David Humphreys is an independent consultant based in London. He specializes in commodity markets and in the economics of the mining industry. He is an honorary lecturer at Dundee and has also recently been a visiting scholar at the Colorado School of Mines and at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago.
For over four years, up to the end of 2008, David was chief economist of Norilsk Nickel, Russia’s largest mining company. Before this, he was with Rio Tinto in London for eighteen years, the last eight of these as the company's chief economist. David has written and lectured extensively on the economics of the mining and metals industries, authoring over one hundred and fifty articles and papers. Prior to joining Rio Tinto, David worked for nine years in UK government service, for six of these as an advisor on minerals policy. He has a bachelor's degree and PhD from the University of Wales.
