Peter Cameron

Skills/Experience

Peter Cameron is Director of the Centre and Professor of International Energy Law and Policy. He is also the Associate Dean for Research in the Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management. He is a Professorial Fellow of the Law School at the University of Edinburgh (Europa Institute), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and Board Member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. He has been an expert witness in a number of cases involving petroleum agreements and taxation issues. He has extensive international experience of drafting oil, gas and energy laws and contracts.

His academic positions have also included: professor at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy; visiting professor at the University of Madrid (Autonoma) and Director of the International Institute of Energy Law in Leiden in the Netherlands.

Over a period of more than 25 years, Prof Cameron has been a regular adviser to the World Bank, the EBRD, various United Nations agencies, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and many governments in developing countries. He was the leader of several European Commission funded projects aimed at promoting the ratification and implementation of the Energy Charter Treaty.

Peter is a prolific author of books, chapters, articles and papers on international energy law issues. His most recent book is "International Energy Investment Law: The Pursuit of Stability" (Oxford University Press, March 2010, 560 pages). In 2007 Oxford University Press published the second edition of his 'Competition in Energy Markets: Law and Regulation in the European Union' (708 pages). He has also written on the development of petroleum law in Iraq and is currently working on EU energy security issues in relation to gas trade with Eastern Europe. He has been Joint Editor of the Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law and has served on the Editorial Board of the Oil and Gas Law and Taxation Review.

Role in the Project

Coordinating the University of Dundee contributions to the POLINARES project.
